Why Does the Coil Make a Major Difference When it Comes to Vaping CBD?

When shopping for a CBD vape, usually the last thing that we are paying attention to is the coil.  Maybe you don’t even know what the coil is, or what it does when it comes to facilitating the vaporization process.  But, the coil actually matters a lot, because without the right one, you’re just not going to be able to get good results from your CBD vaping routine.

The coil refers to the heating element that is located in the cartridge or tank that contains the vape oil.  It’s a coiled wire, usually covered in some type of chassis, which gets the signal from the device’s battery to heat up in order to convert the oil contained in its wick into vapor that’s easily inhaled through the mouthpiece.  As you’re about to find out, that coil plays a big role in just about every aspect of vaping CBD.

Output Compatibility

One thing that the coil does is work with the output of the battery to convert vape oil into vapor without burning it, or without underheating it to the point that no vapor is produced at all.  Every coil has a resistance level, which basically determines how hot it will get when fed power from the battery.  The coil’s resistance level must be compatible with the wattage, voltage or temperature of your device, and so any manufacturer of CBD vapes takes into consideration what the ideal coil resistance level should be based on the device that the user will be attaching it to.  The wrong coil resistance level will either burn your vape oil or make it unable to vaporize.

Terpene Flavor

The coil also has a lot to do with the flavor you get from the terpenes in the hemp plant.  You see, the wrong coil design will make your terpenes taste weak or burnt by failing to provide them with the ideal temperature to really blossom.  That coil material matters just as much as the resistance level, as different types of coil materials have different effects on the quality of the vapor overall.  Many manufacturers these days choose ceramic coils, which seem to have the best effect on flavor.

Cloud Production

The coil’s structure also determines the clouds you exhale after taking in a puff of vapor.  Lower-resistance coils tend to lead to bigger, fluffier clouds, and that’s something that can matter if you’re the type of vaper who enjoys cloud-chasing.

Throat Hit and Smoothness

The coil configuration also affects how the vapor feels when it makes its way into the body.  Generally, higher-resistance coils give you a stronger throat hit – in other words, a strong sensation of hitting the back of the throat – while lower-resistance coils offer a smoother, silkier draw.  Neither is objectively better than the other, as it comes down to personal preference, but a coil with too high of a resistance level can give you throat irritation and coughing, which is another thing that companies always have to take into consideration when picking out a coil for their CBD vapes.

Preservation of the Compounds in Terms of Their Chemical Properties

Using the wrong type of coil when vaping CBD can damage the chemical compounds beyond repair, causing them to break down by getting them too hot.  For instance, using a high-resistance coil with a high output level is a recipe for disaster, in that once those cannabinoids and terpenes reach a certain temperature, they’re now damaged for good, and the entire tank or cartridge is wasted.
