5 Types of Back Pain You Should Take CBD For

Most of us have gone through some period of back pain.  Maybe we were carrying a piece of furniture a bit heavier than we could handle, or perhaps we slept in an unfortunate position, only to wake up in pain?  Or, maybe you’re struggling with a serious back injury that requires constant care? Either way, the good news is that back pain is treatable in just about every circumstance, and there are all kinds of ways to experience much-deserved relief.

If you’re looking to go for a more natural route, cannabidiol (CBD) might be the answer.  CBD is the primary compound in the hemp plant that’s rich in properties that can address all kinds of back pain, due to its ability to regulate our nervous system’s response to pain, as well as the inflammation that is behind many forms of pain.

Why is the Back So Vulnerable to Pain?

The back consists of bones, nerves, and muscles that can all become damaged.  The spinal cord that runs along the back can become injured due to everything from impact to putting too much weight on it, leading to a wide range of spinal disorders.  Because the back carries much of the burden of the body, it’s very susceptible to injury, as we rely on it to sit, stand, carry objects, twist and turn our bodies, bend over, walk, and carry out just about every other type of activity on a daily basis.

What Could CBD Do Then for Back Pain?

As a cannabinoid, cannabidiol has the ability to attach to cannabinoid receptors throughout the nervous system and the muscles of the back to regulate processes that pertain to pain, like pain sensitivity, inflammation and more.  Simultaneously, it acts as a non-addictive, non-intoxicating, and nontoxic alternative to a lot of the other types of treatments that are out there.  If you are experiencing a serious level of pain, or know that you have an injury, you will likely require medical attention, but CBD might be useful alongside the treatment that you’re receiving.

CBD can be taken internally or used externally, and at Nectar Wellness, we got you covered.

Also, it was discovered that using cannabidiol is effective as a pain management solution, as it displayed significant anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, indicating that CBD may help with chronic pain.

Note: It's important to remember that for back pain, CBD is the most effective when it’s used daily, as this allows the cannabinoid to accumulate effectively.

Which Back Pain Issues Could CBD Be Used to Help Alleviate?

Before we get into this, if you’re on pain medications for back pain, it would be best to speak with your doctor first, or if you’re getting surgery/post-surgery, speak with your surgeon beforehand.  Afterall, they do have access to your medical history, and can therefore make a proper determination if taking CBD is the right course of action.  Basically, CBD could suppress the CYP3A4 enzyme that metabolizes half the medications we commonly take.

#1: Muscle Strain

A muscle strain is a tear or stretch in the muscular tissue.  This usually occurs when lifting a heavy object or twisting the back in an unnatural position, forcing the muscle beyond its limits.

#2: Sciatica

Sciatica is a condition caused by compression of the sciatic nerve that runs from the lower back down the leg.  The pain can make it difficult to walk, and also cause not only pain but tingling and numbness down the affected side of the body.

#3: Poor Posture

One of the most common causes of back pain is poor posture, which usually affects mainly the upper back.  Failing to support the spine when sitting and standing can cause misalignment of the spine, which in turn affects the structure of the muscular tissue, causing compression that can lead to tension and pain.

#4: Dislocated Disc

A bulging or herniated spinal disc can cause tremendous pain, by pushing into a nerve of the spine.  This type of issue requires treatment, as CBD may help with the symptoms, but cannot bring the disc back into its proper position. Surgery is sometimes required for this.

#5: Arthritis

Arthritis of the back is caused by wear and tear in most cases but can also result from a prior injury.  It causes wearing down of the joint tissue in the back, resulting in inflammation that surrounds this tissue and leads to chronic pain which can vary from mild to severe.
